It is proposed to play all World Cup matches at the Albert Park sports precinct in Melbourne, Australia.
Located only 3 km from Melbourne’s CBD, and featuring the iconic Albert Park Lake, it is a magnificent venue.
The park includes Lakeside Stadium, Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), Albert Park Yacht Club, Albert Sailing Club, Albert Park Golf Course, a 5 km walking track around the lake and the Albert Park Circuit – home of the Australian Grand Prix.
It is a fantastic venue for the World Cup, given both the number and quality of playing fields, and their proximity to each other.
It is proposed that all 18-a-side matches will be held on the playing fields below:
- Harry Trott Oval (Collegians Football Club)
- Ross Gregory Oval (Powerhouse Football Club)
- Ian Johnson Oval (Oval No. 1)
- Colm Flynn Oval (Oval No. 12)
- Gary Smorgon Oval (AJAX Football Club)
- Lindsay Hassett Oval (South Melbourne Football Club)
- Oval No. 20 (Albert Park Falcons Football Club)
Matches will be played at 10.00am, 12.00pm and 2.00pm.
For the Footy 9s Division, it is proposed that all matches will be played on the playing fields below:
- Barry Dixon Field
- Noel Clarke Field
Matches will be played at 9.00am, 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm.
Both fields are located directly opposite the Grand Prix sheds. They are used for rugby union and both have rugby posts.
