ALBY SMEDTS
Footscray: 51 VFL games, 4 goals
St Kilda: 10 VFL games, 0 goals
Albert Peter Smedts initially played for Narre Warren, then with Waverley in the VFA from 1972 to 1974.
From Narre Warren, Alby Smedts was a tough, resolute defender who could be relied on to keep extremely close tabs on his man. He commenced his senior football career with VFA side Waverley in 1972 and continued with the Panthers for four years.
The 1976 season saw him joining Footscray in the VFL, where he developed into an extremely handy player, playing 51 games and scoring four goals in four seasons. He found the going somewhat tougher at St Kilda, where he moved in 1980, and managed just 10 appearances and no goals over two seasons before retiring.
