AFI has extensive experience working with the Greek community in Australia.

We are now looking forward to bringing Footy 9s to Greece!

Footy 9s is played on rectangular fields, allowing the sport to be played on any soccer or rugby field.

There are 3 great formats to choose from – Men’s Footy, Women’s Footy and Touch Footy.

AUSTRALIA & GREECE
Australia and Greece have a close bilateral relationship based on historical ties and the rich contribution of Greek Australians to Australian society.

The 2016 Census recorded 93,740 Greek-born people in Australia and 397,431 people who claimed Greek ancestry. The Greek-born population in Australia is largely concentrated in Victoria and New South Wales. Melbourne is a Sister City to Thessaloniki.

AFL PLAYERS
The Greek Team of the Century was a representative team chosen in 2004. The criterion for selection was that any Greek blood whatsoever constituted eligibility for the team.

COUNTRY PROFILE
Also known as Hellas and officially the Hellenic Republic, Greece is a country in southeastern Europe. Situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula, Greece has land borders with Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the east.

The Aegean Sea lies to the east of mainland Greece, the Ionian Sea to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

Greece has the 10th longest coastline in the world at 14,880 km in length, featuring a vast number of islands (approximately 1400, of which 227 are inhabited), including Crete, the Dodecanese, the Cyclades, and the Ionian Islands among others. 80% of Greece consists of mountains, of which Mount Olympus is the highest at 2,917 metres.

The historical and cultural heritage of Greece continues to resonate throughout the modern Western world – in its literature, art, philosophy and politics.
