To become a Multicultural Member of Australian Football International (AFI), a team must meet the following criteria:
- Be based in Australia.
- Represent a multicultural community.
- Have participated in at least one official AFI tournament.
- Be keen to work with AFI to build on people-to-people links to introduce Footy 9s to their homeland.
