To become an Emerging Member of Australian Football International (AFI), a country must meet the following criteria:
- A strong interest in growing and developing Footy 9s.
- The creation of at least one senior Footy 9s team.
- Have access to a playing field.
- Have a person who will act as the key contact for Footy 9s.
Once a country meets these criteria, it can apply for Emerging Membership.
