Sam De Koning currently plays for the Geelong Football Club in the AFL.
His Dutch name literally translates as ‘The King’.
De Koning is one of 10 children, with one of his elder brothers being Carlton footballer Tom. His father Terry De Koning played for Footscray in the 1980s.
He made his debut against North Melbourne in round 5 of the 2021 AFL season.
Notably, De Koning kicked his first goal in AFL football during the 2022 Grand Final against the Sydney Swans.
